INDIANAPOLIS — Pete Cowden, Candidate for Indiana Senate District 35 today released the following statement in support of a reasonable accommodations bill for pregnant workers in Indiana:
“Indiana has the seventh-worst rate of infant mortality in the country, a pregnancy accommodations bill would directly benefit the health and wellness of a pregnant woman and her baby. I fully support reasonable accommodations for pregnant women in the workplace.
“We know that less stress on a pregnant woman decreases the odds of a pre-term birth, which is the leading cause of infant mortality in Indiana. We don’t need to study this issue any further, we need comprehensive legislation to be signed into law.
“It’s disappointing that my opponent, Mike Young, voted to once again kick the can down the road and jeopardize the opportunity for a healthier Indiana when even our Republican governor stressed the need for such legislation. This just goes to show the disconnect Sen. Young has with the needs of his district and the state as a whole.
“When I’m elected as your next State Senator for District 35, I will always take meaningful action to make the health and wellness of women and children a top priority.”
